is an artist, designer, researcher, occasional fisherwoman and current North Sea explorer, and when on land - is based in Rotterdam, NL.
Her work focuses within the boundaries of forensic investigations and her research topics are centered around the geo-political thresholds of ocean infrastructures and industries.
Her work explores the tangible intersections of design journalism, ecology and politics through mixed media installations that include, documentary style videos using experimental video projection as a focus medium. She works with ceramics, site collaborative works, performance, text-based narratives, and sculptural pieces. Using mapping as a research tool she works with cartography and data analysis to unpack her findings. Through information design she reveals the hidden systems between these complex topics and navigates how they weave between human and more than human networks.
An example of her recent work, critically reacts to the commercial fishing industry and dissects the relationship between the structure of food systems and the subsequent impact on border politics, legal frameworks, natural resource extraction and the environmental and social consequences.
Brogen sees her role as a designer to mediate the bridge between the audience and her research collaborators, and she uses the ability to change perspectives as a design tool to voice an unheard reality for suggesting alternative narratives.
A selection of exhibitions Brogen has participated in include: Milan Design Week [2023] in Isola Design District’s Rising Talents exhibition. Art Rotterdam with The New Current [2023] and Dutch Design Week at GS22 [2022].
